We, the members of Albemarle High School Young Progressives, in order to further the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party, improve our society through peaceful reform and effective government, and serve those in need in our community, establish this Constitution for Albemarle High School Young Progressives
Article I: Name The organization representing the democrat party at Albemarle shall be known as the Young Progressives Club from here on out. Can be changed with a two thirds vote. Article II: Purpose The purpose of the club shall be to:Promote civic engagement within the school community by providing information to students, parents, and teachers.Allow students to express their views on issues and share insight with county and state officials.Maintain continuous communication with the county democrats.Participate in events to support the democrat party(canvassing, fundraisers, promoting candidates through social media).Provide information to the populace about important current events and local issues through a chain of e-mail communication and active usage of the social media accounts.Organize weekly meetings to discuss events and current issues to keep members engaged.Organize and promote events throughout the school which aim to spread the message the club supports(ie candidates or policies).Sponsor and administer projects that will raise fundsUse funds to support candidates, increase membership, and push policy initiatives. Article III: Definition ofMembership: Members will consist of due-paying individuals that willingly sign onto a club membership form. Members will have full voting rights in regards to decisions the club makes about supporting candidates and policies(Article IV for procedure). The club shall not deny membership on the bases of race, sex, sexual orientation, ethnicity, age, immigration status, economic status (dues can be waved if a member is unable to pay), religion or disability.
Executive Council: The Executive Council will work to implement the purpose of the club(Article I) and shall consist of the following elected officials: President(must have one year of club membership)- Is the head of the club. Vice President- Takes over President's duties when President is unavailable Communications Director- Takes notes of meetings and handles all social media. Treasurer- Keeps financial records as well as manages any club funds. All major expenses (exceeding $50) must be voted on and must have a simple majority of all present members during the vote. President must sign off but can be overridden by a super majority vote. Grade Director(1 per grade)- in charge of recruiting people and reaching out to their grade. Sponsor: The group will have one or more adult sponsors appointed by administration. The sponsor shall have voice, but no vote, in regards to club initiatives. The sponsor will inform the group regarding school rules and community events.
Article IV: Procedure Weekly Meetings: The President is responsible for running all meetings and coming up with an agenda. When the President is absent or unable to attend then the Vice President will assume the duties of the President. The Communications director takes notes of meeting content and post them on the shared folder so that all members have access to information. The line of succession for running meetings will be: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Communications Director, and then Grade Directors with the Senior Director being first and followed chronologically. Meetings shall take place during Patriot Period Elections: elections will be held at the end of each school year for all executive council members and the terms start at the start of the school year. If no one gets more than 50% of the vote then the top two continue and the winner of that wins the election. Elections will all be secret ballot and ballots will be counted by the club sponsor. The constitution can be amended but any changes must have a two thirds majority in order to pass.
